What this is
7,600 recordings · 24 keys · 92 tempo pages · 410 artists
Where do the key and the tempo come from?
From AcousticBrainz, an open database of audio analyses released under CC0. Every recording here was analysed by 125 or more people independently; the key is the one most of them agreed on and the tempo is the median of their readings. The names of the recordings and the artists come from MusicBrainz core data, also CC0.
Why is nothing from the last few years here?
Measured up to 23.06.2022 — AcousticBrainz stopped collecting in 2022, so nothing released after that date is here. The dump is complete up to that date and will never grow, so a recent release is not missing by accident — it was never analysed.
Is the key always right?
No, and the page tells you how confident it is. The analysis is automatic, and it gets keys wrong, most often between a key and its relative. That is why every recording shows the share of its analyses that agreed, and why a recording is only listed under a key when more than 50% of them did.
Why is there no time signature?
Beats per bar are not in this dataset. AcousticBrainz's analysis reports a tempo, a key and a loudness, and no time signature at all, so this page does not print one — a 4/4 here would be a guess dressed as a measurement.
Which recordings get a page?
The 7,600 with the most analyses, of the 9,025 that cleared 125. That is a popularity ranking of a sort — an analysis is somebody who had the file — but it reflects what AcousticBrainz's contributors owned, not what the world listened to, and it leans towards rock and towards the 1970s to 2000s.
